Frequently Asked Questions:

Do you take puppies?
Yes, as long as your puppy is old enough to have been spayed or neutered (some vets
spay or neuter as young as 8 weeks; some want to wait until 6 months of age)...and is up
to date on all its vaccinations (rabies is typically not given until 4 months of age)

We've had to cancel our trip because of weather (no snow for skiing; bad weather at your destination) – are we still responsible for our boarding bill according to your cancellation policy?
Yes. Our business is not run according to weather. This is a small kennel and there are
many advantages in boarding your dog here. One of the disadvantages is that you make
up a large percent of our boarding population when you board here...in order to stay in
business, we need a rigid cancellation policy.

What will my dog do while at Bed and Bones?

A Typical Day...

Wake up around 7:00 am and go out in the back yard to do your business
8:00 am - breakfast is served
10:00 am till noon - playtime in the totally shaded back yard. To include a dip in the wading pool during the summer months. Digging is allowed, as long as it's nowhere near the fence...bring your digging paws!
12:00 noon till 2:00 pm - rest time...thank goodness, I'm tired after all those chase games!
2:00 pm - 3:00 pm - more backyard playtime
3:00 pm - dinner is served
4:00 pm - 7:00 pm - more chase games in the backyard playtime...good, dinner really re-energized me!
7:00 pm - 9:00 pm - evening rest time, may include dog videos
9:00 pm - 10:00 pm - last time out to do my business
10:00 pm - bed time...good, I am exhausted!

We're driving back and don't know how long it is going to take...how can we possibly make an appointment to pick up our dog?
It's impossible for us to plan our day around a traffic jam you might encounter. You should plan for the best possible scheduled time to pick up your dog; you may have to go home first instead of picking up your dog on the way home. And, if you're running early you could certainly call us to see if we could accommodate an earlier pick-up. Just be aware that a change in schedule requires an actual conversation between the two of us...as we are physically closed except for appointments.

Why do you have so many crates? I thought this was a "cageless" kennel.
The dogs must be separated at feeding time, so that everyone eats their own food. Crates, gates and pens are used for this purpose. And, if dogs are accustomed to sleeping in a crate at home (yes, there are many of these), those guests are assigned a crate to sleep. Remember that even if a dog sleeps in a crate, there are still 16 hours in the day when they are not in a crate and playing with the other dogs in the back yard.

We're going to be late for our appointment, what should we do?
As soon as you know you're going to be late, call us immediately. The more time/notice we have, the better the chances are of altering our schedule to accommodate you. Try to think of it this way...if you were scheduled to arrive at a friend's house at a certain time and knew you weren't going to make it, you'd call them as far in advance just to be courteous and so that other plans could be made. We appreciate courteousness above all, because you are coming to our home!

Do you take senior dogs?
Our facility is designed with the younger, more energetic dogs in mind. If your senior dog is still mobile (won't have trouble with stairs) and tolerant of more active dogs, certainly it would be welcome! Even as our regular clients' dogs age, though, sometimes there comes a time when we have to say this isn't probably the best place for Fido anymore. Even the young, active dogs go home exhausted from Bed & Bones. Do what's best for your senior dog and its activity level.

I need to change my reservation; can I do that?
We encourage you to make your reservation only when all aspects of your travel are confirmed. Our reservation software system doesn't accommodate changes easily. Whenever you can, please make your reservation only when it's written in stone! Our reservation system also will not record your reservation without delivery and pick-up times...so, please be prepared with these times at the time you make your calendar reservation.
